dont get me wrong here, i despise human trafficking, slavery, and any form of abuse to take away the rights of humans and animals alike, but what i'd like to ask is, and this is my personal opinion regardless, modern day people, like you see in britain, recentley conducted a walk led by archbishops in apology for the slave trade, im sorry but, how can one man, being tony blair, apologise on behalf of the entire united kingdom about the slave trade? we are not those people who commited the crime, it was abolished, due to a white mans efforts. what about the familys of the people who never supported it, how can you apologise on behalf of someone who never took part in it? how can we aplogise for something that happend hundreds of years ago by people hundreds of years go? its over and done with, it wasnt right no, its still not right, but the apology is not needed, nor is it meaningful, the biggest apology was the abolishment, its done with, its over, lets hear no more. Stop Trafficking!

The past is the past. Almost all races of people have had some form of slavery and no one has apologized to them for it. Historically, people fight against the slave trade, mourn the loss of their ancestors, but walk proudly knowing they have redeemed themselves from such a cruel practice that has gone on since biblical times. I would not expect to apologize for something that my grandfather did and I wouldn't expect that from anyone else. I must say, though, as a citizen of a nation that I am more than happy to be a part of, I would just ask that the suffering that it PREVIOUSLY caused my ancestors to not be forgotten. Not as a slap in the face, but as a reminder of what we were (as a nation), and how far we've come today.

Slavery in one form or another has existed for thousands of years. It has nothing to do with race religion or anything else
except I have more warriors, soldiers or just plain thugs than the other guys. Unfortunately it still exists in some places (Darfur, Somalia ) If everyone had to apologise for past slave trade or ownership there would be no time left for anything else. The past is past, nothing can be done to change it. let's clean up the here and now.

I don't apologize individually, but I believe a nation can apologize. Nations condoned it. Nations protected it with violence. Nations profited from it, and possibly some of your wealth today could be traced back to it even if you never had ancestors involved. so for a nation to apologize for it is a good gesture, and adds to the public international condemnation of it, until hopefully, it some day won't be tolerated anywhere in the world.
To apologize as a nation is justice.
And yes, Tony Blair speaks for the United Kingdom.

No. What's done is done. There is no way anyone can apologize on everyone's behalf, there is nothing we can say that can change anything. We just have to put it behind us and keep living, learn from the past. I don't know how anyone alive today could truly give an acceptable apology for something like that.

If you were alive over 200 years ago and owned slaves, go ahead and apologize, but good luck finding a former slave to apologize to.

no because this still goes on today and most are not involved but are blamed anyways.

it's just a war that wont stop like religious wars and ignorance.

you can't win.

i like how those who never were decendants or slaves themselves want slaves or decedants of slaves to apologize.

NO
our ancestors did it, not us
the past should never be forgotten, but neither should it be held against future generations, including our own

As a white woman I've always thought it was my duty to make-up for slavery by giving my self sexually to black men.
I wish more white women would do this....
