We talked about this in of my classes. Gas prices do not need to be as high as they are. One of the reasons is because the CEO's are making Millions of dollars. And we came up with how to stop this is that gas companies of course need our money. So if oil is hard to come by and gas companies complain of only makeing marginal incomes. Then why are their CEO's makeing a fortune? So to stop this we should have a gas strike. No one drives their car for a week or 2 weeks or a month. Until gas companys lower their prices. Everyone should take public transportation or walk or ride bikes. If you do have to drive carpool with as many people as possible. We agree that if the majority of Americans did this then gas companies would be forced to lower prices. The question is would you be willing to particiapte or do you believe that the majority of the country would be willing to sacrifice such an important luxary that we have?

People are lazy and rather whine about something then get off their hind ends to do something about it. So the gas strike wont really work, sorry but it will end up like the "day without a mexican" strike awhile back.

CEO's will make even more if gas prices decrease. That's economics. The lower the price the higher the demand.

Here's some more economics: If you want to decrease the price of gas, make more supply. Build refineries in America, and open Arctic Alaska to drilling. Cut taxes on gasoline.

I have ridden on public transportation before. I had such fond memories and pleasant experiences, I would rather drive my car than take the bus ever again. Plus with the constant increases in bus pass prices, it is actually cheaper to drive than take the bus.

You sound like a person with money who has never had to take public transportation. Take it and see how nice and efficient it is. If you want to strike, then strike and see what effect that will have on gas prices.

You have to make more supply to stop the increase in gas prices.

It is not about willingness. It just isn't practical. I live in a condo with 100 different units. Practically everyone goes to work in a different place and at a different time. The only thing that WOULD work is a good public transport system. And the big gas companies have put a lot of money into making sure that the US as a whole never develops a unified public transport system.

You can't.
As long as you have a President and other "elected" officials connected to the oil industry there will never be a significant decrease in the price of gas or prevention of higher gas prices. Plus the oil industry has the consumer literally over the barrel.
And Ethanol? Who do you think is going to control that if it ever becomes a viable and successful alternative to gasoline? The oil industry. That's who. They're not going to give up their billions in profits.

you've made a lot of statements I hope i can help you...

It would be impossible to have all stop buying gas, there is so Manny of us who re lie on or cars and trucks for work, sale staff, transportation of goods, emergency vehicles you get the picture.

Mass transportation would be a disaster have you ever been on a buss during rush hour.

The ceo's you are talking about run very very large companies with huge sales, so they make more money. yes even to the tune of hundreds of millions. please take a look at the balance sheet of Exxonmoble they paid on taxes last year over 90 BILLION dollars we need to be asking wheres the money?!
excise tax 30.7 billion
other tax and duties 41.5 billion
income tax 23.3 billion
total 95.5 BILLION
what we need is more oil on the market and more refineries to produce the gas.

I'm sorry but no and no.Think we have high gas prices? Look at Europe and Great Briton. I don't like high gas prices but I do remember the gas shortage in the early 1970s. If we stop driving OPEC will withhold gas, and we will have a 2 hour line at the pump.

During the recent price crunch, were you able to get gas?? Of course.

Therefore CEO's are doing their job, and, while the pay may be out of site, could you run Exxon/Mobil???

It would be great for everybody to use 1 less galllon per week. There is one day a week when i do not drive at all, sometimesmore.

------------
Correct - the price of gas will go down if we stop using it.

Do what I do. I bought a used electric car from eBay for $2000. I replaced the batteries for under $1000. It does freeway speeds. It's a fine car, just a little old. Electric motors are very durable (only one moving part in an electric motor.)
*
I can drive it for about a penny per mile in electricity. I charge it at home and at work.
*
And I DRIVE RIGHT PAST the gas stations!

Here's another place to find cheap electric cars (links on the bottom of this page):

This is not so hard folks! My EV is a lot of fun (I drive it in local parades, too!)

Gas prices should be set by supply and demand. How will we get any other alternatives if prices are kept artifically low?

If you don't like high salaries, why pick on just oil industry? Actors, professional athletes and CEO's in all industries get much higher pay than average.
