I was driving around the other day and noticed a 50 cent or so gap between regular unleaded and diesel fuel the other day. Now why is that?

I don't know where you were seeing this, but diesel fuel is higher than regular gas in this country. Diesel fuel is what's left after gas has been refined from crude oil, and should be cheaper. Have you ever left a glass of soda with ice sit until the ice melts? You will see the water on top and the soda on the bottom. Commercial vehicles and other machines run on the bottom part while your car runs on the top part. It's harder to separate your part from the crude oil than it is the latter. But don't be fooled, thank your lucky stars the commercial side pays for your higher refinement. You could be paying as much as $5.00 per gallon to ride around on.

Diesel fuel is a waste product of all petro. It is the last thing to come out of the refinery, and it's not so cheap anymore. What you saw was probably a price that had not changed yet. I drive over the road trucks and diesel is around the same as unleaded or higher.

Diesel with the updated refinements with lower sulfur will most likely always be a few cents more expensive than regular gasoline, if not a few cent more than super unleaded. But the engine will last longer and you will get better gas mileage, so it makes up for the slightly higher price. I would never use Farm Diesel or Red Diesel in a TDI motor. It's not very pure, dirty, most likely will rot you injector pump sooner and if the police find out, you will get a huge fine.

If you had been paying attention in the last couple years to fuel prices you would know this is a recent development. like in the last 2 weeks. Diesel is just the crap they strain off the gas and sell for profit. What state r u in. I want that diesel.
