my friends and i are wondering if we should make a movie or documentary. we have everything needed, three cameras, two laptops with wireless internet, a GPS, spotting scopes, not to mention several desktops. We just can't think of anything to do with it. any suggestions?

Sounds like me - I know I want to start on a film project, I just don't know what.

Maybe start small, with a music video or something, just to get you started. Find a song you like, come up with a plot, film it... it shouldn't take too long, so once you've actually made something, you'll feel like you've accomplished SOMETHING, and might have an easier time coming up with a new idea.

Maybe do a documentary on what kids are doing with their summers, show who has to work, who's just screwing around, who's taking classes, who went on vacation ... ask them their opinions, ask random people on the street if summer break is too long...

Or you could do a kind of post-moderny type thing on trying to find a subject to film. Come follow me around as I try to find things to film and struggle with spring term math classes, ha.

Find an issue in your community that you want to change - it just might work if your documentary is good enough.

Any local bands you know of? They might like the exposure that a documentary will give them.

Recycling. That's what I did for my class last semester. Here comes the shameless plug - check it out at youtube.com/thiswasnotmeantforme

Find a show or movie that you like, and do a remake, spoof, or new episode.

Look for film contests - where I live, there's an annual thing involving the river and how it's important to people, and there are prizes for whoever makes the best video - they get screened at the local theater and everything, it's pretty awesome.

If you're really good, make money and film birthday parties and such - you should have a sample to show people, though.

You could always do something about the war - I don't know if it's just because I live in a former hippie town, but everyone around me always has an opinion...

There's a million ideas... I hope these have helped, though.
Good luck.

I think you and your Friends should plan a cannoning trip. to spend time with each other during the vacation you should leave your canoe for a little while at your campsite and going for a nature walk.or you could go water wading.then for dinner you could all go fishing.or while some people are fishing go gather sticks or tidy up the camp.then after dinner you could eat like marshmallows or just talk around the camp fire .i hope that help for what you said about being specific.

How about making a documentary and live with several families of different cultures and sharing what you have learned??

Omg my friends and i are huge on movies. You dont need to make a HUGE movie. Make a couple short movies that are like 10 to 20 minuted long. Youll have lots of fun and its really cool to see what you have made!

Maybe do an investigative piece about a problem in your local neighborhood. Something like those news reporters do when they catch a fraud or something.
