I'm a huge Jacket fan. And hearing our fans, we disagree a lot with our GM and get dissapointed with the losing seasons for the past 7 years. But, I don't get to hear people outside of Columbus on their opinion's of the Jackets. What do other hockey fans think of our franchise? Please be honest, but be intellegant with your answers (that means no stupid answers!)

To add details, A Blue Jacket is a reference to the Civil War (a Union Solider/Blue Jacket). Jackets have a great fan following. The stadium holds about 18,500 and there are at least 15-16,000 a game. At least with Columbus fans, we aren't bandwagon jumpers! :)

I usually think "they should be better than they are".
They still seem like an expansion team. Anyone remember when the senators ,panthers, and sharks came into the league? it was a likely 2 points for whoever played them.
Same for columbus after SEVEN seasons.
Something is wrong there.

I used to live in Columbus, so I hope the Jackets do well, and I know that Columbus is a great place for an NHL team.
Having said that, around here -- the Pittsburgh area, where I'm from originally -- there is really no consciousness of the CBJ at all. The schedule and alignment mean that the Blue Jackets are pretty much irrelevant to the Penguins (they don't even play many games against teams that the Pens play), so no one here really thinks about them. And that's too bad really, because the Blue Jackets and Pens could have a great rivalry if they were to play more often.
As for my opinion of how the team is doing, it does seem like they're making progress this year under Hitchcock, but with 30 teams in the league it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. I do know from watching the Pens, though, that it is possible for a team to go from very bad to pretty good in a hurry, so there is hope. Good luck!

Unlike what some people have already said here, Columbus DOES have a good hockey fanbase, and does deserve a team, albeit a team that can play better than Columbus has in its short existance.
I'm a Red Wings fan, so I've seen Columbus plenty, and it would be great if the Jackets can finally turn that corner. They've got some talent in Nash and Zherdev, and some veteran leadership in Foote, but it isn't enough as of yet. If they can get something a little bit more reliable in goal, they can put something in place for a better future, but we'll have to wait and see.

I think the Blue Jackets seem lost as to the direction they wish to go. Do they want to go out and get free agents to try and become a contender? Do they want to rebuild the franchise through the draft and let the players learn? Sergei Fedorov, Adam Foote, and Anders Eriksson seemed to lead they were trying to compete. Yet they have super young kids Gilbert Brule, Alex Picard, and Fredrik Norrena playing loads of minutes early on in the season. I do feel that the Blue Jackets have a bright future if they know exactly what it is they wish to do. If they wish to rebuild, they certainly gave those young kids i've mentioned alot of experience, and in the future youngsters Derrick Brassard and Adam Pineault will be even greater additions to the team once they have polished their skills in the minors.

Columbus is a sad team. Hiring Ken Hitchcock was a dumb move. I have no respect for a team that is satisfied with constantly being a loser. They go out and obtain Anson Carter and trade him? Rick Nash had a terrible season, and the goal tending still is not solidified. I would hate to live in a hockey town with a constant losing team, believe me Buffalo was bad for many years after Hasek left. But a new owner has changed all of that and the SABRES are the hottest team in the league and in Buffalo! Sorry just being real with my answer.

I have no problem with CBJ. They have some great players. I watched there game against Detroit, and it was a nail biter. Great game. I was very impressed with there performance. I am a Pred's fan, but I am a hockey fan also. I think they will go a long way next season. I can see it in there spirit, so to speak. I will cheer them on if they go to the playoffs next season. Oh, and thank you for that little tid bit on the history of their name. Nice to know.

Avs fan here in Iowa. I know some Jacket fans in OH, so I do watch them. They put up some great games, unfortunately, they end up on the loosing end of most of those. They are doing great I think. One more goal a game and one less GA a game, and they are at least Conference Semi-Final bound.

We think it's not really a good hockey town, and the team is still a few years away from being competitive.
It would help you guys if Nash woke up next year. This year has been a throw away for him. Fedorov is obviously over the hill and has no place on a team building for the future. A decent goalie would be nice too.

People outside of Columbus rarely think of the Blue Jackets-if they do it is in the context of the civil war.

I like your Czech players, Vyborny and Klesla. And Manny Malhotra. I think you're going to need a better goalie, though. And what is a "Blue Jacket"? It's pretty much the oddest team name I've ever heard. Does the team have a decent following? How is attendance there?
