I want to buy a cell phone but don't want to be shocked by a horrendous monthly bill because I didn't see let alone understand the fine print. Let me know of your experiences.... who's the best company to go with and what have your experiences been? What should I look out for?

depends on you really.
How many mins do you need?
Who would you call the most?
Do you mainly call a certain few ppl the most?

I've had nextel, sprint, cingular, and t-mobile (which i still have)
nextel was the worst due to reception and high price of plans, but they've merged with sprint, and now have better plans. they have plans where your nights start at 7pm, and for $5 more they would start at 6pm. i had cingular, nice part is the rollover mins. but i would have to go with t-mobile. i've never had a bad experience, been with them for 3 years now, they have pretty much everything you could need. If you call a certain few ppl, take advantage of the myfaves. they have free nights after 9pm. but again, it's what you're looking for, and what you'd need.

I love Sprint. I get 450 min/month plus free nights and weekends for $39.99. You can add 300 txt messages for $5, and data transfer for $15. I've never been "tricked" by Sprint.
