So my job is to hand out flyers at the mall and get people to bring in their kids for practice commercials on camera and see if they like it or not. I work for an entertainment company and they just scout kids and teens to be background workkers. It's free and I am not selling anything to the parents. I get paid if they just go in and do the practice commercial. It's really difficult for me to approach people because they seem to lose interest so quickly. I'm not exactly a dull person. I'm pretty energetic but for some reason, people think I just want to scam them :( I really don't want to be the bad person. What are some little things I could do to keep their interest and see that I'm not just trying to take their money?

Wow!! first I applaud you... alot of people would shy away from this type of job.. but I think a few pointers coming from a consumer .. point of view is be polite and .. friendly . Maybe ask if they can give you a few min of their time .. to hear what your proposing.... and be respectful if they say no... the positive attitude you mentioned you have will aide you greatly...as you will probably get more " no thanks " then "yes "'s. I can say I will stop and listen if the person is dressed well and .. is polite and friendly. I Hope that helps .. but really it will be your attitude.. and in this type of job its easy to get discouraged cuz you will get alot of .. people who might not respond at first. Good luck and wish you all the best of success on this job!

Be nice to everyone, smile a lot, joke with people, especially the kids, do it as if you were giving a party for the kids. Since it's free, they've got nothing to loose, right? Enjoy yourself and you'll be surprised how many will come to you and wonder why you're having so much fun? And if kids like you and have fun with you, it shouldn't be too difficult. Don't be too serious; that might be the cause they think you want to scam them.
Try it this way and it might change the whole picture!

Good luck.

Handing Out Fliers

Give the people your best smile and hold the flyers out there. If they take them, they take them and if they don't they don't. Regardless, don't take it personally. I would tell the people about it in as simple of terms and fewest words possible. If they want to know more, they will ask. I wish you luck.

Look, it's a silly game, here's how you play:

Every body you see, you say this to:
Hi, I have a flyer, care to see it?
yes - Ok, here you go, thanks and have a pleasant day.
no - Ok, have a pleasant day.

Always thank you and very respectful, yes / no hi / bye thank you and stuff, sir / ma'am lalala
Don't explain stuff, don't "sell" to them, all you're doing is asking if they'd like a flyer, yes / no, and thank you.

blam, that's it, whatever their answer, who cares, thank you.
A 'next' attitude might help, if the mall is very busy, your goal is to give out as many as you can right? Yup, so a no answer means 'next!' Come on you guys, don't rush me, wanna see my flyer? Yes / no? 'k tyvm

Whatever you do, don't get offended or angry if a person rejects your flyer -- even if they immediately crumble it up and toss it to the street.

I actually had a person come to my door one time and offered me a flyer. I said "no thanks" and he simply tossed it next to my foot. I ripped the flyer to shreds, crumbled it up, and smiled at him. He comes back and talks some smack. Long story short, it ended up in a fist fight. Police and paramedics came and took him away.

As you distribute flyers, when someone walks by, say, nice hat, nice suit, nice hat, or whatever, DON'T BE TOO PERSONAL!" and give them a flyer. You can also say, "may I give you a flyer?"

Good luck.
