It will be remembered as one of the truly great books of the 20th century. It exposes the savagery of man and what happens when the thin veneer of civilization is removed. It is also a scathing commentary on war. The fact that the characters are children, only magnifies the message.

I first read the book in High School and liked it but really didnt get the full picture untill I read it again about ten years latter. It has a lot to say about people and society and how easy we can get twisted out of the norm and revert to basic instiincs.

An absolutely brilliant book. So much happening there that reading it again and again is a pleasure, as painful as it is to have such an ugly insight on human nature. One of those books that libraries assign to the "Young Adult" section, but "grown ups" should get their hands on once in a while and read again as a warning.

I read it in high school and thought it was a very good book. It's not a favorite, but I think it was very original, well-written, and had a good message.

I think it is a realistic portrayal of Human motivations and behavior. It drives home just how important this artificial structure of society and civilization is in our lives.

I think it's a fascinating study of human behavior when it's left unchecked. The saddest part to me was when the kid with the mulberry birthmark died.

It's a fabulous book. There's so much you can take from it!
