if you have iTunes, if you click view, you can then click sound amplifier and turn the biggest amp (to the left part of your screen up to its highest) and you should here a difference in sound. Works very well.

So... view.... then click show equalizer.... then the closest amp to the left make it go all the way up and it sounds a lot better that is if you do have iTunes. There may be some other places to increase sound.. but I'm not for sure.

You need a stand alone amplifier. Most sound cards of any quality have a small 5 watt amp built in.

Use a sound card that has speaker out audio rather than just line out. You could also use a post amp between the computer and your speakers. It really depends on how loud you are trying to get and how husky your speakers are. You could then feed the line out audio to an amp with line in capability and blow the neighbors out of their houses.
