Last week, at a different garage, while having my transmission drained & purged I was told that the front strut mounts need to be replaced. Should this have been done when the new struts were installed? How serious is this? I take very good care of my car but I am in a money crunch right now. All and any advice is greatfully accepted!

It is not typical to replace the mounts with struts unless there is obvious, visual wear (unlikely), or noise. What is the reason that the facility is recommending mounts? As for how serious this is, there's no way for anyone to tell with this information. I recommend finding an ASE Blue Seal rated facility on ASE.com, which will be a shop rated in the top 3-4% in the nation. Get a second opinion because it seems suspect that strut mounts would be recommended during a visual inspection with no noise complaint from the driver. Hope this helps.

i own a repair shop, and if they used Monroe struts on it they should have a life time warranty of them and they shouldn't be bad to start with, not in a years time anyway,i think id get a second opinion on it,this doesn't sound right ,for some reason,if he had it in the air,how did he know they was bad you have to bounce them to check them unless you can see oil running out of them,so id have another mechanic inspect it don't mention the struts to him,and seee if he mentions them to you ,just tell him you want everything checked including the shocks and struts, and see what he says about it,some shops like to se how dumb people are and how much money they can get from people,or at least it seems that way some times, good luck i hope this helps.

These cars are not good cars to begin with or maybe they are maybe it is that you take such good care of it that it is lasting a long time for you? I hope someone will answer this, I think if you have to wait it will be okay and then do it if you want to.
