Look in Backstage (or whatever the theater paper is in Chicago, but I think it is Backstage) under auditions and see who's casting for repertory/summer stock theater in your area (Wisconsin, especially Door County, has quite a bit.) Get your tech resume together, then send a letter, with the resume to the company. Try to get the name of the production manager via the web if you can, but don't let the lack of a name stop you. If you get a number, follow up with a phone call two weeks later.

Good luck.

Okay are you looking for work in professional theatre? If so, you might not be able to find a job if you don't have Equity or if you aren't in some kind of a union. If you are able to, there are internships that are open to people who are entering their freshman year of college. Or you can check online--Google is a terrific place to look; just type in a search for theatres in your area that are looking for technical workers.

If you are under the age of 18, it might be a bit harder to find work as a technical theatre worker because of issues with the tools. Just specify what you are looking to do. Try community theatres.

Best of luck!!

Write the local theater companies in those cities or call or e-mail them and see if they have internships or summer programs you can attend. Also call the local IATSE union delegates for those areas and ask for their opinions, suggestions and ideas. Also join the local USITT and get some leads through them. Also ask your teachers for references, suggestions and contacts and good luck.

summer-stock. I did this in high school, and it was a lot of fun. you might have to leave the area, but most companies put you up in hotels.
