it seems like such a simple question to ask & to get a straight answer shouldn't be a problem but i bet you will. 'good' and 'bad' are subjective words meaning not the same to all people. a good teacher should be one who has loads of info and has the ability to transmit it onto the next generation and do it in a fashion that you actually enjoy learning new stuff each & every day. a bad teacher not only has problems in getting this info into others' heads but does it in such a way that it can get sticky & boring and that should never be. learning is lots of fun. there are 365 days a year. if you learn a new word, create or find a way to solve a math problem, find an interesting person from past times, smell a different rose, et cetera and you do this with the assist of a teacher, then that teacher is indeed a 'good' teacher. anything else is second rate.

Well, it all depends for each person. There have been some teachers that many people disliked that I liked and than there has been a teacher that many people like but I disliked.

I am thinking about a teacher that I don't like right now. I didn't like her because it was so obvious that she had her favorites. She liked all the peppy girls in the class. She gave her favorites good grades. SO, for me, I don't like teachers who have obvious favorites. Alot of people liked this lady, but she was very unprofessional.

I like teachers that make you feel special- make all their students feel special. There have been some great teachers who didn't make it obvious as to who their favorites are. They had something positive to say about everyone - no matter if you were a pep, shy, troublesome, etc.

A good teacher is capable of teaching individuals while being respectful while being respected.

A bad teacher sees the job as a paycheck. Many teachers I had with tenure acted just like this.

I'm a preschool teacher and I know that public speaking skills, and having an actual trusting relationship with your students is absolutely necessary. With those, you could still be a bad teacher. Knowing how to explain what you know to your target audience is the most important thing.

A good teacher will answer your questions completely - until you understand fully. He/she will give you different ways to remember certain things that are important. He/she will expand on answers as fully as possible.

A good teacher is empowering. Rather than having complete control over what enters a kid's mind, he or she will encourage that kid to want to learn, to learn on their time.

a good teacher manages to get the attention (and get them to study) of those students who otherwise don't learn anyway, regardless of how the teacher is.
