I had the powerhead in my salt water tank unplugged and forgot to plug it back in. When I finally realized, 1 clown was gasping at the surface and the other is lying on the coral gasping away. I dont know how my starfish is, but its alive...

The starfish hasnt moved in the last hours, and both clowns are still gasping away for over an hour.

I did airate the tank and got it well oxigated, but Im worried I've just killed my clowns and starfish.

Im pretty upset...please dont be rude- I know Im a moron to forget.

Please ONLY answer if youre an expereinced aquarist.

Thoughts on their chances of survival appreciated.

sounds like sulfer poisoning, and i would lie to say i have never done a bonehead fishtank move

if i were you i would do a water change as soon as you can, like ten percent, and consider installing a plenum filter so the next time the oxygen goes down you dont have sulfer gas in the water

and just hang on your fish will probabbly bounce back after a nice water change

good luck

It isn't sulpher poisoning.

At leat you caught your powerhead in time how long was it off? No worries there, but, even having a powerhead unplugged for a few hours would not make your fish gasp for air. I have to do this in my large tank when I clean it. Clowns are really hearty fish. Also, what did you do to reoxiginate the water? Did you do a water change? Adding dissolved oxygen is a good thing however, you should test your water quality.

What were your water readings? Your starfish if it was just an oxygen problem would be fine. Has he started moving yet?

Your ammonia should be around .2 and your nitrates 5or less.
Feel free to email me and let me know how they are doing.

Could be sulphur or just simply a low DO in the tank. either way it will take the fish several hours to recover, but recover they will.

Bone headed fish tank move? Been there more times than I can count... and that's just this week lol.
