You don't indicate if you have taken any college classes already. If you want to be a social worker you will want to obtain a BSW. You should check to see if your local college offers this degree. If you are at a community college you probably want to do an AA degree in Human services (this usually meets the prerequiste for social work - but check with your local BSW program to see what they require (usually stats, Bio, psych, Soc, diversity). There are different level programs which include, the doctoral degree level which may perhaps allow one to work as a college professor, a master's degree in social work (to obtain credentials of licensed certified social worker (LCSW) in which one may be able to start their own practice after gaining experience working with clients and such and of course, as a LCSW, the social worker may get health insurance reimbursement for their services.

Bachelor's degree programs (as well as master's degree but each one may differ so please do check) generally require prerequisites such as statistics, the social sciences which include sociology, pschology and/or anthropology, history courses and others depending upon the program. There may also be a program at the community college level to obtain an associate's in human services as someone else mentioned, though one's jobs are quite limited with a 2-year degree. Most schools probably have the requirement of some volunteer work within the human services field working and helping others.

You would really need to check with the school(s) that you are interested in attending and find out the GPA (grade point average) needed to be accepted as a student in the social work program at that particular school. I can post a website to possibly find colleges in your area. Bless you!

Look around at local colleges...they might have a certificate in social work or an associates degree in social work.
