A tie between Stephen King's "The Stand" and Crighton's "The Sphere". The Stand is about a post-apocalyptic world after a deadly super-flu with a 99% mortality rate devastates everything. The ultimate battle between good and evil with a little bit of every genre involved. The Sphere is all around a good novel, however it gets points for being the best because it made me jump in my seat while reading a particularly tense passage.

All of the Margret Weiss and Tracy Hickman books in the "Dragon Lance" series. It's a lot of books, but it is a great story that will hold you through and keep you going all the way to the end. They include "The Dragon Lance Chronicles"(trilogy), "The Dragon Lance Legends"(trilogy), "Second Generation", "Dragons of Summer Flame", and "The War of Souls"(trilogy). They have recently written more to add to these, but I haven't had the chance to read them yet.

The entire Harry Potter series so far.
it's more than a children's adventure. it's kinda like a coming of age story. tragedy, love, death. yet perfect for all ages.
i could say the Lord of the Rings, but J.R.R. Tolkien went into much too much detail about every little thing.
