The guy has hit 5 hr so far this spring, i just read the re-cap of todays game and they gave him 1 line, and if i remember right when he hit his 4th homer, they didnt even mention him. He's on my fantasy team too, and they never put out info on him, really, the guy is tearing it up, why doesnt anybody notice?

...don't take too much stock into what happens in Spring Training. Most statistics that occur during it means nothing.
Though, Phillips is definitely an up-and-coming 2B, maybe he'll surprise people this year, but you can't say that definitely based off his Spring Training performances.

He is having a great spring. I think the reason you don't hear much about his spring, is just that, because it's spring. If he keeps this up during the reguar season, you'll hear about it.
The reason he doesn't get much respect yet is that he's only had one good year. He's 25 and the Reds are already his third organization, along with the Expos and Indians. It will take at least another year to prove last season wasn't a fluke. I think he'll be good.

Because he was a big whiner with the Indians and they had a better option at that position.
Nobody "hates" Cinicinnati like one of the above posters says. They're just not one of the huge markets, so they'll never be nearly respected enough, no matter what they do. Even worse for them, with Wayne Krivsky as their GM, they'll probably just get worse and worse and make dumber and dumber personnel decisions. Here's hoping they don't, but he's already signed tons of the worst/most washed-up castoffs from the team where he was formerly the Assistant GM (Minnesota).

Because it's spring training - until this week, they face a lot of pitchers trying to earn a spot in the majors. Phillips is pretty good, but far from an elite player. Nothing bad on him, he is just Rickie Weeks with less talent. And Weeks isn't getting any pub either. Relax, and enjoy having him on your team.

I have ZERO problem with Phillips first of all. Second of all--the Indians did not lie. That kid caused more headaches in Cleveland then he was worth. Truth is he publicly said he was the guy who should have been paid instead of Sizemore -the Indians gave him TONS of chances to play in the bigs---the guy just couldn't hit in Cleveland-so he was sent to the minors after playing 3 months stinst in Cleveland and hitting .215--and he cries and boo-hoo's in the paper about it's not fair. No team would keep a 21-22 year old kid up who is hitting under .220 (a few weeks in June he was under .210) up in the bigs--let him work it out in AAA( And Phillips wore shoes that said "The Franchise B.PHillips) the attitude was bad in Cleveland and I THINK HE LEARNED TO GROW UP AND THAT HE NEEDS BASEBALL-BASEBALL DOESN'T NEED HIM--so he's a different man in Cincy--but he burnt alot of bridges in alot of cities with his mouth-so that MAY be where the lack of respect is lacking. I wish him luck down South.

that's what i'm sayin. he has 5 HR's, with a .370 BA and last year, he started 150 games, hitting .276 with 17 hrs, 75 rbi and 25 steals. he also struck out once per 6 ab's

Because the guy has a career .245 BA and 23 HR's! He hasn't proven anything. If he builds upon last year's perfomance and improves this year, then he'll start getting some r-e-s-p-e-c-t.

You and i are both hoping he has a good year. I think that despite what people say he is going to prove himself. And when he does then he'll be one of the elite second baseman.
