I picked up a very small paper route of 45 papers. i was showed the route two times, but still can't remember the houses. most look alike, so it's hard to identify land markers etc. I have only one more shot, and I'll be out of a job...

Take a notebook and write down the house numbers, make yourself a little map.

Good luck!

Well, I used to have a trash service, and I did the "first house on the left with a blue door" kind of thing. I'd put the color of the house, the fact that there was a privacy fence, or what was on the corner where I turn, anything at all, and before I left one house, I'd look to see how to get to the next one.

I used plain notebook paper and wrote out each day's route, putting the sheets back to back in sheet protectors:

1. Jane Johnson, 123 Any Street, 5th house on the right-- blue station wagon in driveway

2. David Doe, 54321 W. 7th Street. Turn right at Elm, left on Main, then 3rd house on left. Watch for black doberman in yard!!

3. etc.

After a couple weeks, you won't need it so much and you'll have to change it when you add someone or someone quits, but it will sure help to have it with you. I also put phone numbers, in case I needed to call them about something.

what i did was i wrote a list of addresses i delivered to on a piece of thin cardboard... like the back of an 8x11 legal pad. Put it upside down in a plastic page protector. This keeps the rain out as you are holding it. Make a different one for Sundays. You will need the sunday one longer. More papers. It won't take more than a few weeks before you no longer need the daily one.

Gee whiz, are they serious, only three times to get it right? Start off by writing down every single house number. You're gonna be slow to start, but it will get faster.

The next thing is memorize the house numbers to the tune of a song. It may sound strange, but I remember things from when I was a kid in elementary school because of the sing song nature of school, I still use it today.

I would draw a map! =)

Mark the houses on a map and use Google Maps or Yahoo Maps to help you out.

Write down the house #'s, and mark it on your map! Then you can create a list of the houses you need to visit and check them off as you deliver.
