What is the name of this comedy movie? I believe it was from either the 80's or early 90's.?

It was different... involving an old hotel or possibly a boarding school with ghosts... that Blue October song "Into the Ocean" looks like the set for the play that was put on for a scene of the movie with the addition of parts of the scenery coming to life and a giant octopus(? or another huge sea creature) attacking the ship.
