Umm.... where do i start?
Right you're going to need a paint program like a photoshop or paintshop.
Next load up bodyshop. Find the clothing item you want to edit and then click "export". You will be asked to name it so name it something that refers to what it is/will be.
Once that's done you can leave bodyshop.
Next open up your paint program. You have to find the file now so here's where it will be "Documents/Ea Games/Sims 2/Projects". (Bodyshop automatically exports it to this location.) You'll find a folder which will be named whatever you decided to call it. That's obviously the one you want so open the folder. Inside there may be several different files.
The file with "alpha" written at the end is the "mesh". This is the shape of your clothing. The file with "texture" is the colour and texture of the clothing. You can edit the "mesh" (black and white) by colouring white areas black to remove them and vice versa. The best way to edit is to keep bodyshop running - when you have completed a change and want to see how it looks, save it and then go back to bodyshop and load it in there. The changes will be reflected. Use the "texture" file to colour your item etc.
Remember that you cannot change the shape of the clothing using this method. By that i mean, if you exported an A-line skirt you will not be able to make a miniskirt out of it. I can tell you how to do that if you want but E-mail me for that. Also feel free to e-mail me if you have anymore bodyshop questions. I'd be glad to help.
Oh I forgot to tell you how to get the item you created into the game. It's very easy. Load it in bodyshop and then click the "import" button. See, easy.

I can't give a detail explanation as I'm still learning myself how to make good custom clothing for the Sims 2. But, I use tutorials and such and they help a lot:
