I was reading about them and was trying to decide if I wanted a "same sex" pair and wanted to know what to expect before getting them.

Before getting a sugar glider you should be aware that their eating habits require some protein. Ex. monkey chow, tofu, cooked turkey or chicken, hardboiled eggs, baby chicks or mice, and insects.

They are great pets though! Make sure to do a lot of research. They are exotics and require differnt treatment than cats and dogs.

Things to know before pet time:
When bred and kept in captivity sugar gliders behave differently to wild gliders. As gliders are very social creatures, often living in families in the wild, it is difficult to raise a single sugar glider in captivity. It is rare for a sugar glider owner to be up late at night, when gliders are most active, to play with it. With multiple sugar gliders, social behavior is closer to that of wild gliders.

What does that mean....
-get more than one if possible (same-sex if you dont want multiples)
-expect them to sleep for most of the day and make noise at night
Good Luck!

My brother and his girl friend have a male and he is pretty messy. He is not nuetered so he marks everything he can with little drops of urine to mark his territory. I helped clean his cage when I was visiting. He made a point to quickly scent the cage as soon as we finished. I've heard that neutering can help but you would have to find an experienced vet. Perhaps females would be slightly less territorial, I'm not sure.

A friend of mine had one. They are very cute, but you have to stay on top of cleaning the cage. Gnats get very bad because of the fruit, fruit juice and nectar. And they can tent to stink if you don't stay on top of cleaning the cage regularly. Make sure you are ready to make a big commitment.
