This is based on a swimming pool but, it should apply anywhere.
Our favorite and most effective is:
Useing fishing line, string an X formation or grid above the pool. (high enough not to be a hazzard) Birds see 10times more than we do, it will keep them from flying above the pool. The great thing about this is it works and is not an eye sore to the pool owner.
Here are some other suggestions:
Hang old cd's on trees around there yard. (Good use for the AOL cd's) When the sun hits the cd it shines a light everywhere.
Decoys - owls, rubber snakes. You must move them around every couple days or the birds get used to it.

I felt sorry for you. How stressful life you got there?
Imagine their songs a beautiful melody and you'll be okay. Hating them like this will wake you up every morning while loving them, they'll sing you to sleep. That's what I've been doing anyway. It works. (Especially if you have a pesky crow for a neighbour).

I found that by setting out a few rubber snakes
where they perch did the trick for me.Also keeps
them from taking a bite out of your tomatoes on
the vine.

Use the plastic bag like a flag on top of your roof. When the win blow the flag will flap and scare the bird.

Your house is in their habitat. You'll have to move if you don't like birds.

There are floating balloons you can get to put where they sit that will scare them away. They hate movement.
