The problem in India is that lot of politics and regionalism are involved in the selection of players as a result of which promising talented youngsters do not come into limelight and get ignored. Actually there is no dearth of talent in India. But the main drawback is that no sincere efforts are make to spot the talent and groom them up because such talented youngsters may not have any godfather to support them.

India HAVE found the best cricketers out of 1 billion people....unfortunately they are just not good enough this time around.
The size or population of a country has nothing to do with whether or not a team will be the best in the world. If this was the case, India will be the top team year in, year out!
West Indies has a population of just over 3 million (the islands that play cricket), and over the years they have produce great players. In fact, Antigua has a population of 66,000 and they have produced legends such as Viv Richards, Andy Roberts and Curtley Ambrose.
The top team/performers in cricket, be it ODIs or Test Matches, have demonstrated a sense of commitment, focus and dedication to their job. Sri Lanka is no exception. In addition, structures that are put in place to help develop the sport from a very early age also contribute to success as is the case with the Australians.
India needs to take this experience and work on their weak areas to continually improve....to be the best that they can be! Please show some respect to the other team. The game of cricket is growing and improving and the sooner you realise that it will be better for you. The traditional top seeded teams do not have automatic passes to win championships anymore. You have to earn it.
Be realistic!....take everything in stride. Accept that your team did not do well in this World Cup and you will get out of your confusion and depression. The good news, though, is that you will be cohosting CWC 2011. You have a few years to work on your shortcomings so that you can keep that trophy at home!
Good luck in the future!

Sri Lanka has only 20 million people.India has over 1 billion people.Only players from southern, central and western provinces out of 9 provinces makes the whole team of Sri Lankans. In some parts (eastern province ) cricket is not very popular.
Sri Lankans are more clever than the indians that is the reason. It is because of there attitude towards cricket.
