I have windows xp and I have dial up and mu parents are always complaining about the dial up sound and ive tried unplugging the speakers but its like something inside of the tower. does anyone know where in the preferences I can shut off the sound because I did it a long time ago but now i cant seem to figure it out

(1) In the Control Panel, there should be an option for the modem: Phone and Modem Options



Control Panel --> Phone and Modems Options --> Modems --> Properties --> Modem --> Speaker Volume



Be careful not to click "Remove"!!!

(2) In the Volume Control in the taskbar, there should be an option to show more controls, like Phone volume.




Volume Control --> Options --> Properties --> Adjust volume for Playback --> Show the following volume controls: --> Phone

turn the volum down till after the dial up sound is gone,,,upgrade to dsl or cable and you wont have a dial up sound

The simplest answer is to shut off your dial up is to get broadband.

Put the volume on mute. That's what I do
