I want to tune to drop B and I know how to do it. The problem is the strings. I know they get loose and I should set up my guitar with 11 gauge strings to make it work. The question is....Will I be able to play songs in standard with 11 guage strings or will it be hard. I know some songs in drop B and I like the tuning itself but I have only one main guitar and dont know if I should do it. I have 9 guage now and thought stepping it up to 11 gauge...but I just want to know if anyone plays with 11 guage strings and plays in standard tuning with ease. Like how hard is bending and other things with 11 guage strings?

thanks

9's are wimpy.

i play 11's on my Telecaster and 12's on my Jaguar, both in standard tuning.

drop D is one thing, but drop B would require either a kick *** set up on a guitar (and you can't just tune back to standard without another major setup) or a Baritone/7 String guitar.

but man guitars that low don't have any tone!!

Buy a 7 string guitar. Thats your best bet.

I hope I dont come off sounding like a dic% or anything but its your choice if you want to experiment with heavy gauge strings. I dont know anyone off hand that has done that. Maybe someone here does, and they can tell you if its a good idea.

With that deep bass I could only assume you're into metal,if thats the case you should seriously consider the option of buying a 7 string if you want to go that low.

The setup would be B E A D G B E

Either that or play with a good bassist

Your drop tuning so it would be easier to bend? No shlt? Bending on thicker strings is less painful....? no shlt again?
