Piers Anthony's Xanthe series are good for just about any age. a lot of play on words and neat story lines.( example, one of the books is called Isle of View, and if you say it fast it sounds like i love you so you can imagine the fun and miscommunications that happen throughout the book)
they are fantasy adventure.
or Brian Jacques's redwall series or
Castaways of the Flying Dutchman and The Angels Command
they are about a boy the is a stowaway's on a ship with an evil captain that gets cursed to forever sail the sea's the and how the boy and his dog end up escaping from the ship but not escaping completely from the curse, the books are about all of his and the dogs adventures while living a Very Long life.

How about Uglies, Pretties and Specials? It's a trilogy by Scott Westerfeld and is the story of a possible future.
Everyone is an Ugly until they hit 16. On your birthday, you have an operation that changes you and makes you a Pretty. Your only job then is to party and have fun. Sounds great, right? Of course there is always a catch.
Hoverboards for transportation, SpagBol for dinner and trying to keep things icy are a few of the things the protagonist and her fellow Crims are up to.
Gary Paulsen has a lot of excellent books out there. He wrote Hatchet and I read another about a boy soldier that joined up in the Civil War.
Walter Dean Myers is another author you might check out. He wrote Monster (which is mostly written in script format) and has a lot of other stories under his belt.
Sharon Draper has a book called Tears of a Tiger - high school basketball player makes some decisions that change his life forever. She also has other titles that sound interesting.

I second the Hatchet, and add The Sackett series of books by Louis La'mor, also you might try the Redwall series by Brian Jaques. If you are very ambitious and like fantasy, try Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time." Why not try "The Lord of The Rings" trilogy while you are at it? Once you get started, just about anything can be a great book for a teenage boy.

Read "the catcher in the rye" by J. D. Salinger
Its a quick read bout this guy Holden Caulfield who keeps either dropping out or being kicked out of private "prep" schools. Its actually really funny. Salinger has a couple other books and short stories that you should check out if you like it.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
Controversial and a little bit racy but very addicting. A fast-paced, addictive read that will make you so angry you won't want to put it down!!
