If asking her for a date seems scary, try a couple things before that, like walking home together or letting your conversations get better. Ease into it.

Ask her privately. If her friends are around, it'll get around the school very fast and it'll be a disaster.

if she shows that she is interested in you go for it. yes, i would try and ask her privately but do what you have to do- sometimes it is hard to get people in private and if you follow them around and try to find out when they are alone, they'll think you're a stalker
