Let's just keep our noses out of the Middle East and leave them to their own devices to figure out their own relationships.

If we're not involved, there's nothing for them to hate us for, and we can concentrate more on our own country.

It's a win-win situation.

Cons: Yes, I know, you think I'm stupid because this doesn't involve killing anyone. Let's just consider that a foregone conclusion on your part, okay?

Ummm... it involves killing about every Iraqi in the current regime, probably a decent amount of Saudis, possibly the Kuwaitis, and a big number of Kurds (either by the Turks or Iranians).

You are also delusional in the fact that there's nothing for them to hate us for.

If nothing else, we're not Muslim!

Not only that, but we've supplied the Saudis weapons, the Kuwaitis, the Jordanians, the Turks, the Israelis, and most of the other political powers in the region. We also tend to live longer than they do and do so in a way considered evil by their religion. That's also not talking about the Persian wild card or Pakistan.

I think your biggest fault is that you are expecting RATIONAL thought out of a group that tends to only think along (irrational) religious lines and based on a value system that puts tribe/clan/sect first and everyone else can piss up a rope.

In other words "leaving them to their own devices" means letting them kill each other, export the violence into the Mediterranean, Africa, and Europe with the refugees and modern transportation.

And we're not even talking about the economic impacts...

I wish it were that simple. What do we do when they attack Israel - inevitable if they believe we are going to "keep our noses out." And eventually, expand into France or Spain? Their ideology of hate and domination is not a myth. And how "secure" do you think the Middle East will be when the Shiites in Iran get nuclear capability - especially if Amadinejad is still at the helm?

As far as killing, I sincerely wish that they could keep their blood lust inside their own borders. They hate us and they want to kill us - I didn't make that up - they told us that numerous times.

Unfortunately, the US is just a target for Extremist hate. It has nothing to do with us or Islam, it's just another banner people unite under for the purpose of making certain people rich. They think they are freedom fighters, we think they are terrorists, and a select group think they are a great way to make money and gain power.

Destroy greed and your plan would work perfectly.

While I think your thought is a good one, I think it is far to late in the game to undertake that approach. At this point, bin Laden, Iran, etc. need an "enemy" to demonize and defeat. Essentially, we fit their needs to a tee and, as such, you can pull out of the Middle East tomorrow and will find the Middle East coming to you...exactly as it did on 9/11.

I think it's foolish. I am not a conservative either. Islamic people, not middle easterners are the terrorists. Middle Easterners have many different faiths, only one is currently the problem. Plus, the terrorists have spread throughout the world. This is a global problem not just the US's.

If you can explain to me why Al-Qaeda targets France and Germany I will agree with you.

Edit- Iraqs invasion of Kuwait (after the long war with Iran) was ok in your mind?

You believe we should not have gotten involved to save Kuwait?

You do realize right that the moment that caused Bin Laden to start his holy war against us was because christians and jews set foot in the holy land (saudi arabia)?

You'd have to bomb AIPAC and ban all Israeli sympathizers from having ANY contact or participation with the US government.

Something that absolutely should be done but never will.

Awful lot of oil in the Middle East. Course you won't need any of that.... you will be hanging with Big Al Gore.

Typical liberal. Simplistic answer to an awfully complex question.
