My husband and I just did this a month ago - to the Sensation. Carnival charges $50 per person. Mears is about the same. We rented a car at the MCO airport. We did Avis as it's located in the airport and the cars are litteraly housed in the parking garage (simple). Avis and Budget have reciprocating agreements with the Port rental locations for one way drop offs and pick ups. So...for about $40 we rented a car at the airport and drove to the Port Can. location. dropped it off and they drove us right to the cruise boat. Did the same on the return. It was nice not having to rely on a bus and we were able to stop along the way if we wanted. Look on ebay for discount rental coupons etc.. even at full price, it's still only about $40 total.

First check with the cruise line to get an idea of what they are charging. The cruise lines charge a per person rate, so if you have a larger party, this will be the most expensive way. However, if you are only traveling with a few people, then it will be the cheapest way.
You could also check with a private transfer. They are quick and easy and save you a lot of time. Again, if you have a larger party, then this would be the least expensive option as they charge one fee for a town car and one fee for a van, regardless of the number of passengers.
Also, check with Mears. I've never taken a shuttle, so I don't really know how it compares with the cruise line, I would assume Mears runs a little less. But as with the cruise line, since it is a per person rate, you will be better off with a private transfer for the transfer.
Taxi is going to be very costly, so this I would definitely avoid if you want to save money.
Aside from mears and the cruise line, I don't believe there are any other public transportation options, such as Lynx, that would offer a lower rate.
Have a great time!

Transfers with the Cruise line is going to be about 50.00 per person. Parking is going to depend on the number of days that you are going to be on the cruise. I would go to www.carrentals.com and see what it would be for the car rental and then budget about 15.00 a day for parking and then see if it is going to be cheaper then taking the cruise transfers. Also you might look into Mears Transportation. They are a transfer company in Orlando that has service between Orlando and the port

It depends on how many travelers...I've known people who rented the smallest car they could and renting that and paying for parking was cheaper for them than doing transfers. Check with your cruiseline to see how much transfers cost.
