What is the ultimate truth about reality? What is real and how do we know that it is real and that we are even real? Please do not use the quote "I think, therefore, I am."

I am goign to expound upon this. I think that there is reality, but that we cannot know or understand it and know with certaintity that if we think we do we are right (I know that makes no sense, read it a little at a time slowly). I think that belief makes things real enough to live this life and if this life is not real, then what we believe will not matter anyways. For something to be real, you need to bleieve in it. Tell me if you think I'm worng, right, or close.

I used to have a pad of post-it notes that had the following (or something very similar) printed along the top:

Reality: that which refuses to go away once you've stopped believing in it.

I think that pretty much covers it. How 'bout you?

Close your eyes, now open them. There it is, how can you even think that what you are experiencing at this very minute is not reality. Maybe reality has several dimensions that we are yet to discover, but it is definitely reality.... If you were here with me now I would slap you and ask you "Do you feel that" there you go......

close. it's a matter of a combination of opinion, interpretation and perception. it would be a rare incident to find two people with the exact same concept of reality. the events that define us are interpreted in different ways by different people even if it's the same event. reality is in the end a word to describe a relative concept.
when a group of people casually mention reality assuming that they are referring to the same thing, usually the actual state of existence as they believe it to be, they each refer to their own reality, and the only reason people don't get into huge arguments about reality is because by growing up and living as a member of a species that is social by nature, we define reality in similar ways. some things are accepted by the majority and spread to the point that almost everyone accepts it, but not exactly. the person in the mental asylum may be just as mentally capable as you and me, but his perception of reality is so different from the rest of society that it is taken as complete irrationality and a threat. our definition of reality as similar allows us to function as a society. yet in the end, reality is what you think it is. that may be one meaning of the famous quote. but only if in your opinion you perceive or interpret in that way.

According to my faith, life is like a 'dream', so reality is just a human perception or belief, as you can't really say that something is definitely real. It really depends on the way you perceive things.

Ultimately there is no way to recognize reality. I believe reality is truth.

What is true is what is real. You know that you know something is true when you're at peace with it and you know that feeling is beyond any abilility to understand it but you're at peace with that too. When you're at peace with something you fell good about it and when you feel good about it you like it ( an example: peace, joy and love).

Well, it seems that you did not ponder about this quote too deep, it explains everything clearly.

Just the fact that you have a conciousness of anything is a proof of the fact that you exist.

altho the matrix movies were fiction, one line from these films is true. the overall reality around us is the overall sum of information our brain collect from our senses.
