Heres a good link to a 3D wave simulator. You'll get the idea, just play around with it.

On the 1st dropdown box on the right, try using pinhole or single slit. It will give you a really good idea of what waves look like in 3D.

You can grab and rotate the box by holding down the left mouse button and moving the mouse. That way you can get different perspectives on the wave...

oh and you can change the frequency too, so you can answer your own question on the sharp or flat thing. If you move the slider up it would be like making it sharp, down is like making it flat.

Sound is created by the vibration of any given media. The faster the vibration the higher the pitch. Sound is characterized by the properties of sound waves, which are frequency, wavelength, period, amplitude, and speed.

Here is some good info for you to check out.

It is a wavy line that is formed from vibration and its line of origin or rest position is when it doesn't vibrate. Each particle bumps into each other to cause a wave. Go to the website listed at my source for better info! Good luck researching!

They are compression waves in which the density of the air periodically increases and decreases with time, like this:

...... . . . . . . . . . ......... . . . . . . . . . . ............ . . . . . . . . . . . ..........

The closer together the dense parts, the higher the pitch.
