Have you ever visited another country or had a visitor from another country and you or the visitor said something innocent and everyone starts to laugh because it sounds so wrong.
For example: If I say to you "I feel like a F A G". What am asking for?
If you are in the UK and sometimes said here where I live in Australia, you would be asking for a cigarette. http://www.aussieslang.com/slang/australian-slang-f.asp

Good on ya! I love it! Here are a Yank's interpretation from the States (Michigan to be more specific):
1. Hi I’m Randy (Randy) - Randy is simply a nickname for Randolph, although anyone who watched the Austin Powers movies understands this to be "frisky"
2. Do you have a “Rubber” (Rubber) - condom; very few people here still call boots "rubbers"
3. A “Queue” (Queue) - 17th letter of the alphabet; no one here knows how to line up let alone call it a queue.
4. What team do you “Root” for? (Root) - cheer, barrack (although I get 'rooted' in the Oz sense whenever I watch the Detroit Lions play - they are horrible!)
5. Dutch Oven - oversized cooking pot; didn't know there was another meaning...hmmm...have to look it up now
6. What part of the meal is the Entrée. (Entrée) - the main dish...not so in Oz?
7. Thongs? - As a kid, they meant sandals with one part that went between two toes, now it's "butt floss"
8. Port? - Kind of wine, place for ships
9.Fanny? - bum, **** as in "fanny pack"
10. You go to a BBQ and you take a Plate! (Plate) - here it would mean to bring an EMPTY dish to fill, not a full one - we call it "bring a dish to pass"
11. Barney? - Purple dinosaur; Fred Flintstone's neighbor?
12. Billabong? - swamp; not fit for drinking
13. Mate! - Pirate's friend (thanks to popularity of C'pn Jack Sparrow)
14. "Homely" - Ugly
15. Chemist? - Someone who studies chemistry and works in a lab - here we call drug store workers "pharmacists"
16. Cordial? - friendly or a brandy-type liquer
We also call Hungry Jacks "Burger King" (Home of the Whopper); a nappy is called a diaper, we order things "with everything" instead of "the lot", we cringe at the thought of eating "spotted dick" and we call it ketchup, not sauce.
:)

I'm from Ohio, in the United States of America. 'Fag' is a derogatory term for gay men.
1. Randy is a man's name, derived from Randall, I guess.
2. 'Rubbers' are what older people call condoms.
3. I don't call anything a 'queue' except maybe a Netflix queue and I've never heard anyone else call anything a queue. We call 'queues' lines.
4. Root means to cheer on, the roots of a tree, or to dig around looking for something.
5. A dutch oven is a crock pot. I think.
6. Entrée is the main part of the meal. Appetizers come first. Dessert comes after.
7. Thongs are underwear, not flip-flops.
8. Port is where boats park.
9. Your fanny is your butt.
10. A plate is the dish you put food on. You could also use 'plate' as a verb ("Let's plate the fish next!") but you probably wouldn't unless you worked in restaurant. Plates are also the metal identification tags on your car.
11. Barney is a name. It's the name of a dinosaur, Fred Flintstone's best friend, and a drunk guy from The Simpsons. I have never met a person named Barney, but I'm sure there are some out there.
12. Billabong is a line of surfer-ish clothing for teenagers. At least, it used to be, I don't know if it still exists.
13. Mate isn't really a word I use, except maybe in the scientific sense. "The monkeys in the zoo are mating" kind of way. Also, some people say that their spouse (husband/wife) is their mate.
14. Homely means plain-looking, not especially attractive.
15. A chemist is a scientist who works with chemicals.
16. Cordial is being nice/polite to people. Also I think it's also an alcoholic drink of some kind but I only know this from reading Anne of Green Gables when I was 10, and Anne was in Canada, so I don't think that counts for me.
