i'm going to audition for the play OKLAHOMA! at my local family theatre. i am a total rookie and have no idea what to do for my auditions. i went to a how-to-audition workshop today so i know i will have to dance a song, but i keep messing up on the "multi-task" steps. i also have to sing a song by myself. i am very nervous when i get up in front of people alone and i don't know what song a should do as an second serprano. lastly, i have to act out a scene (probably the scene after juid dies and they have a "court trial" in the house. they said i need to move around and act out the feelings. please help me and give me a few hints.

p.s. the auditions are this coming saturday, this is saturday march 24.

That's funny, I'm actually starring in Oklahoma! as Laurey and will be performing it in a couple months! I'm really excited...

It's totally normal to be nervous, I would be surprised if you weren't! It's better to be nervous, when you are too confident it seems you mess up more!

It's great they have a how-to workshop to get you on the right foot. Don't concentrate on the fact that you are messing up; if you mess up during an audition, don't pay any attention to it and keep dancing like you did it perfectly. In a performance, most no one would know anyway!

I suggest you sing a song from a different musical. If you can sing a song from the musical or they request it, try "I Cain't Say No!". That is Ado Annie's big, funny song. That's more of an alto song, but since you are a second soprano, you could try some of Laurey's songs, like "Many a New Day" or her part on "People Will Say We're in Love" (but that's a duet). Search the songs online if you don't know them.

For the acting part, do not make it fake. Listen to what the characters are saying and RE-act as if this is news to you and the first time you hear it (even though you'll be rehearsing it 3472897927589 times!!!).

Good luck this Saturday and be confident!!!

First off make sure to wear comfortable clothing and bring water.

For the dancing, just do your best but just look like your having fun doing it and try not to get too flustered if you mess up but just catch up to wear everyone else is.

For the acting, don't worry about hand gestures or moving around just try your best to get into the character and to let go.

For singing, here are some suggestions for a song:
Hello, Young Lovers- The King and I
Far From the Home I Love- Fiddler on the Roof
Castle on a Cloud- Les Mis (only if you are 15 or younger)
Maybe- Annie
The Girl I Meant to Be- Secret Garden

By the way, a second soprano is commonly referred to as a mezzo-soprano in case someone asks if your a "mezzo". Good luck!!

Well you've gone thru it by now. I hope you memorized one of the songs, Oklahoma is good, but " I cain't say no", Ado Annie's part is just as good.

You probably should have tried out for the chorus to get a 'feel' for the play and theatre but hey sometimes rookies luck out.

make sure you embody the character, from the moment you walk into the room the casting directors should feel like "hey this is laurie or hey this is ando annie" Be in character for your whole audition and if and when they ask you personal questions make sure you're yourself...you wouldnt want them to think ur crazy, lol
