Im rebuilding a small tiller engine for school. I have it all tore down with all my engine measurments, Crank, piston, valves ect...... I need to order parts, gasket set, rings ect.... Problem is the model #'s are wrong, someone switched the blower housing, and now i have no idea how im going to order these parts that I need. The only thing im certain of is that it's a model 80000 series, pretty old... What do I do?

Being I have worked on these things myself, I can tell you that if you can take some basic information to a briggs and stratton parts and service center, and I mean someone that has a very good knowledge of your engine, they can steer you in the right direction, you say a tiller engine, im going to assume it is a 5 HP engine with horizontal crankshaft. I have a old briggs and stratton repair manual. If i can find it, I would be able to put together a model number knowing the basics of that particular engine. Another thing you can do is if you know someone who has a engine like yours , you can get the model numbers off of it. there is not much difference at all with those older 5 HP engines

Well go onto the Briggs & Stratton webiste, and look up the parts catalog on it. Or take it to your shop teacher and tell him the model # isn't matching, and see if he has a PRIMELINE book, or the Briggs & Stratton book.

Good luck!

i own a shop, and if you,ll clean the block off real good all of these are stamped with the serial number ,and they can use that to determine what you need for it,i have done a few of these before, and on a Briggs, there's always a way to find out what it is,good luck hope it turns out good.
