You are right in that tabbed browsing is similar to just having multiple windows open. However, the multiple tabs will not clutter up the taskbar like multiple windows will, as the tabs are shown in their own separate area of the web browser. Also, Firefox (and probably IE now) will let you bookmark an entire set of tabs as a single bookmark so that with one click, you can open a bunch of websites in tabs at once. With tabs, multiple webpages can't get "lost" behind each other like multiple windows can, since each tab is always the same size as the others.

From a more technical standpoint, a tabbed document interface uses less memory than opening up a new window for each website.

Hi tom,

I've had tabbed browsing with the Macintosh's Safari web browser, and just recently took the plunge in using tabs. I've been slowly enjoying this feature. Instead of having a bunch of separate layers of windows up on the screen, I'm starting to appreciate the easy of just clicking on a different tab.

Another thing I like doing is for those slow loading web pages. You can click on one tab, go to a web site, start another tab, and go to a different web site, and go back to the first web site, and read, while the second is still loading.

It takes some time to get used to it, but you might start to enjoy doing it this way as I have started to. Best of luck.

You can move around just as easily but who wants to have multiple windows open? Most don't like that because it's so messy. That is what tabbed browsing is about. Cleaning up your desk top so that you can keep track of many pages at once. If it isn't for you then don't use it, I personally like it. The tabs are easier for me to read quickly than hunting through page after page to find what I want if I'm doing something that requires flipping back and forth.

Tabbed browsing is more essential because instead of having several browsers open, while multi-tasking with other things, (Messengers, Movies, Music etc) it is nicer to have just one browser that you can keep track of without having to switch back and forth from browser to browser. So what im saying is that tabbed browsing is more convent.

Tabbed browsing means you only need to open your browser once. The more times you open your browser at the same time the more resources your PC uses and it will slow it down.

Both IE and Firefooked claim it to be tyhe latest and greatest, tabbed browsing has been part of the Opera browser for years.
It just takes a bit to get used to it.
