it wasn't a rooster,it was a sheep dog and a wolf....wasn't one named sam and ralph....they would carpool to work,punch in and then go about their business,have lunch together and even share stuff,go back to the wolf trying to steal the sheep,punch out and go home

I don't know about a rooster, but there were a series of cartoons that involved a sheep dog and wolf (who looked a lot like Wile E. Coyote) who would punch in and out each day; during the day the wolf would constantly try to steal sheep and the dog would always catch him and beat the stuffing out of him. When off duty they were good buddies and got along very well. Their names were Ralph and Fred but I can't remember which is which.
Foghorn Leghorn (the rooster with a southern accent) sometimes ran afoul of a large bulldog, but that wasn't a regular theme.
Incidentally, some of the toons were much older than 1970s - more like 1950s.
