I recently got a used palm pilot, but want to delete off all the events, and contacts still on it. How do I "start over" with a used palm pilot?

What model is it?

You can give it a hard reset. Hold down the on switch and press the reset button (at the back; use a pointy object) at the same time. Don't let go until the Palm logo appears. Then follow what the instructions on your screen say. Warning: A hard reset means deleting EVERYTHING in your Palm, including applications.

Hope you got the disk so you can hot sync it from your PC. Not knowing which model all I can give is a general rule. All modes, Address book, note book etc., have edit modes to clear them. You may have to "click around the top" to find the proper options section, but they can all be cleared or any items deleted. I too have two older palms, an old but still good M100 and a Zire.
Point of interest, the earlier units ran on removable batteries and had an internal back up battery to hold data while you replaced the batteries. Ever since the Zire came out the battery is an internal rechargable battery.
As to below, that is correct, however, the hard boot or reset will only remove old data and any added applications. It will go back to factory default mode and you can save any non-palm apps, or what ever by doing a hot sync first and then a reset. You can then do a selected hot sync to only load back what you want.

Remove the batteries from the unit and let it sit overnight. That should take care of the unit's memory. If there is a flash card on it, you may need to reformat it. I usually clean everything out on mine through the usb cord interface. When I plug it in, my computer sees it as an external storage device, and opens an explorer window for me. I just highlight and delete what I want to get rid of.

Good Luck,

most of the time you can just pop the batteries out for a minute or two and then put them back and start over. Sounds too simple I know... mine used to lose my info b/c I wouldn't change batteries quick enough. It was a few years back though. Things may be more advanced now..?? Look up a manual online for that one specific.
