When you can't write, try reading someone else's work. It makes your writing better when you go back to work as well. Or you can try things that your English teachers tried to tell you to help like prewriting, and ballooning, and outlining, and probably keeping a journal is the best way to have things to write about. I love politics and sometimes I'll just write what I think about the latest laws or tax codes and that definitely gets me started on something else.

Maybe you have a classic case of writer's block, rather than lack of inspiration.
What I would do is think about what inspired a certain story or poem before? Was it a certain movie, or a song? When I get stuck somewhere, I tend to search music that matches the mood of part I'm at. Or I try to imagine what I'm writing as a movie, and when I get to the part I'm stuck at, I think about what would most likely happen next.
As far as generating ideas, I tend to follow what I dream. Not actual daydreams mind you, but what I dream at night. Most of the time they're pretty vivid and interesting.
If none of these work, I would suggest that you just write anything. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece. The purpose of it is to jump start your creativeness.
Good luck and I hope you start writing again soon!

I also love to write. I get writers block allot. When I do I like to do a few things. This is weird I guess but I will sit and write the words to my favorite songs down. That works the best for me. Maybe it's because I am a music lover so the words inspire me. Also I will check out a book of one of my favorite poets such as William Wordsworth. Those two things help me out the most. Good Luck!

I had read this book seven times, if I were a story writer, I would follow after this author. You can get this book from the library. When you do get this hard back book; there is a 2 sections, look for Chapter 1 about half way back. It starts out with a man named Joshua with his dog feeding birds in the middle of winter out in a park. And the story "holds you in your seat, you may not get a chance to put the book down". Its based upon a true story, or is it not?

Read a minimum of two GREAT books from the classics before you even try to write again. Then spend some time brainstorming on paper - just any ideas no matter how silly they sound. Sooner or later a couple of them will appeal to you. Then try writing short stories - very short ones - from your brainstorming ideas. Eventually something will cry out to turn itself into a longer piece. Pax - C.

Inspiration comes from life - actions - doing things. In order to write about something it helps to be inspired by the topic. Chose an activity or a special event that really means/meant a lot to you and try to re/capture the feelings.
Writing has to be based on the experience and knowledge of the writer. In order to write something meaningful it has to come from somthing meaningful. Walk on the beach - write about it, visit a special friend - write about it, remember a birthday/christmas/holiday/romance - express it in emotions then expressing it in words is easier!

Do you have any other career options in mind that you could turn to instead of "writing"?? If not, I recommend a using a grammar book, a dictionary and a thesaurus, spell-check on your computer. Visit the library often. Meanwhile, write each of the following words 10 times across on a sheet of paper: inspiration, interested. I do think choosing another career would be better. Good luck.

Firstly, you should read a book on your standard...then try to raise your standard. Only you know what is your standard. Then, while reading the book, look out for wonderful phrases. Write it down on a notebook or somewhere. And then u can use it for writting next time!
Oh...and just practice writting at least thrice a week. And do keep a journal!

Whenever I have writer's block, I think of a topic and just write, write, write about it and just keep on going and don't stop. That will get you in the mood. Also try writing in the early morning or at night.

I actually try to avoid reading, it seems like your stories end up being like the ones you read. I listen to music. I also just write, force yourself to write. Always write down your ideas, little phrases, and words that stick out in your mind.
