Hello. One of the best ways to speed up your computer's performance is to get more SDRAM for your system. There are a lot of programs running in the background that use up the reserves available on your system, so doubling up or so will do a lot for you. Let's assume you've only got 128mb SDRAM, then you could either get another 128mb SDRAM card or maybe even a 256mb card should your pc allow it (as to slots). Another thing I saw just a moment ago is to fix your registry, but I'd recommend not doing so unless you are experienced with it as it can cause you grief. I did it a while back and ended up messing things up a bit and had to do a system restore point to regain my previous bearings. This page seems to have some good thoughts, so here it is: http://www.compukiss.com/sandyclassroom/tutorials/article455.htm. BTW.. I'd only do a defrag ONLY when your system says so... Good luck friend and keep it up.

1. Defragment your computer. (Basically moving parts or all files together, regrouping files. )
http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag/index.php
2. Buy more ram. (Allows for more programs to run and makes it faster)
3. Check for any malicous programs running (viruses, spyware, adware, and related) and remove them, so your computer speeds up with less programs running.
4. End useless processors with the Window Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Delete)
5. Prevent Useless programs from starting up, once you turn on your computer.

Check for and remove any spyware / adware and then defrag your Hard drive. If that doesn't make much of a difference then buy some extra RAM.
