I have Mirena and love it. I have had it since August of last year. I had spotting for the first few months more often then not. It has now settled in and now I get a very light period.........which is a big change from the heavy painful periods I had before. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

Yes - almost 2 years ago.
I still get a period, but it is almost nothing, just spotting for a few days. About once or twice a year, I might have something a little heavier - but even that is lighter than my lightest days used to be! And I don't have to think about it for 5 years!
I did recommend it to a friend and she's happy with hers, too!
As for gaining weight, there's no reason why you would gain weight from an IUD! It's a physical device placed in the uterus that emits small amounts of hormones (lower than the pill), so there's no reason it should cause weight gain. In fact, they list that it WON'T cause weight gain (which IS associated with the pill) as a benefit!
"Side effects and health risks. Unlike the copper IUD, the hormonal IUD decreases the amount of menstrual blood flow and menstrual cramping. The major side effect of hormonal IUD use is abnormal vaginal bleeding. Some women have unpredictable, light menstrual flow, while many may have no flow at all. Some users may experience a pelvic infection within the first three weeks of placement, as the insertion process can introduce bacteria into the uterus. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics before insertion to reduce the risk of such infections. Hormonal IUDs don't protect against STDs. IUDs also carry a risk of spontaneous expulsion — which leaves you unprotected against pregnancy — or piercing (perforation) of the uterine wall during insertion."

The start manage used to make me ill, so approximately 6 years in the past I switched to an IUD and that i wouldn't have any issues or facet influences whats so ever. But I consider that an IUD is extra for a females who has had a couple of kids and does now not wish anymore. That is what i recall from what my medical professional informed me.Make an appointment and talk about using an IUD along with your medical professional and notice what he thinks. Good Luck to you and God Bless. Also I used to be at the depo shot( three months shot) decades in the past and began wasting tons of hair on my head it needed to be discontinued.

I used it for five years and loved it. I still got my period, but they went from six days down to three, and they weren't as heavy. I didn't gain weight with it (another plus) because the hormones are directed only at the uterus, unlike the Depo shot where the hormones go throughout the body (I gained 20 pounds in a year and a half on that). I would recommend it to a friend, although I would also recommend changing it a little sooner than the full five years because I got pregnant with it...the hormones got too low to prevent pregnancy.

I have the copper IUD. I've had it since November, my periods are ALOT heavier, probably about 8 pads a day. I love that it will last 10 years, so for that reason-yes I would recommend it.
