Ok, so I recently had back surgery, for my scoliosis, and I am a totally different person. Before, I was real closed off, and shy, but now in really open and SO much more outgoing, and happy.

What's your life changing experience?

I was in the hospital for quite some time recovering from surgery and a lot of things went wrong afterwards. This was all during my teen years also. The amount of pain and the days being restricted to my bed only increased how happy I was to get out of the hospital. I remember how I just appreciated everything so much more. I came home and I remember how comfortable my bed was, how nice a shower felt a few weeks later, how tough stairs can be, all the little details that I would have just brushed off. I can honestly say it was the best feeling of my life coming back home.

I was in a major car accident when I was 18, found out I was pregnant with my son (3 months along) and I was legally pronounced dead on arrival. After making it through the first 36 hours in critical condition I woke up and aside from a major migrane headache I felt fine. I was in ICU for a week and went home. That was life changing for me because after that I appreciated things in life and learned to not take things for granted, but to enjoy living and exploring the beautiful things around me. I am 36 now and have two beautiful teenagers and we love the outdoors and adventures. I injured my knee on the job a year and a half ago and it's limited my freedom to enjoy hiking, dancing, playing sports and doing the activities I love. I am still active just have to take it easy until they figure out what needs to be done with my knee. I went to a spring training game today and it was beautiful though I thought after sitting on the blanket I might not be able to get up without looking like a fool, but I didn't care I went, and had a blast. I believe things happen for a reason, and I look at things with an optimistic attitude and find the good in everything.

Hope all is well with you, it sounds like though our experiences where different it had a positive affect on us both! Good luck and take care!

I was involved in a horrible car accident and only received minor cut and bruises. When the police arrived on the scene they were looking for my body. They literally walked right by me and turned back and asked. Where's the body? I told them I was the one in the car. They all looked in disbelief. The entire time the car was sliding out of control and careening towards the Semi all I was thinking was,"Well, my friend, this is it and you have wasted your life on the pursuit to be rich." I have since refocused my life. I still strive for wealth but not it's because I want to help society. I also volunteer a whole lot more. I want to make a difference not a dollar.

Glad to hear your surgery was successful. Unfortunarely for me my health has gone the other way. 4 years ago I began having symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Presently I can no longer work a job that requires much physical activity. I have been trying to find something, but, it is proving very difficult. Its a terrible feeling not to be able to find work. I don't know which is worse, dealing with the stiffness and slowness of the disease or the feeling that your not much use anymore.

My life changed the day I found a pamphlet 'advertising' the possiblility of being a teacher of the deaf. It was exactly what I was looking for, and it gave me the avenue I was looking for to get away from my current life. I found a school, got accepted, moved away from many negative things, and my life has been great ever since!

I've actually had a few. My most recent was the birth of my granddaughter. I was invited to stay in the delivery room (in a modest location at the head of the bed of course). It was truly the most amazing natural experience I have ever known.

Absolutely. My daughter was diagnosed with autism 5 years ago. I was always at the top of my class and things always came easily to me schoolwise.... I used to become easily frustrated by people who took time to get things.

Mia was our wake up call. She has taught me to be a better person. I understand so much more than I ever did and I am a better person for being her mom. To look at the world differently is a gift, I hope you treasure it. :)

I have, I won't say what my experience was but it changed my entire perception of life and has helped me to deal with several issues in my life that I had avoided in the past.

I was in a very bad car accident. Now I really appreciate things like making sense when I talk, remembering to pull my pants down before using the toilet, etc.
