Go to any bookstore and purchase a book called the "Writers' Market". That book lists hundreds of publishers and their guidelines for submissions. It also lists agents. It is a great place to start. It will also give you advice on how to write a query letter, how to work with agents, etc. It's a great source of information. They also have targeted versions, for childrens books, magazines, etc. But, the general "Writers' Market" will have all that included.
Good luck!

First, determine your audience and seek a publisher that publishes books geared that way. Don't use a vanity press such as Author House, Vantage, etc. they aren't as respected in the business.
The larger publishing houses usually don't accept submissions unless they are through an agent, and agents are hard to find. But the smaller ones will usually look at submissions. You need to research the publishing house and send a query first and wait for them to request your manuscript.
Although, the budgets are small and the lists are long, this may be the best way to start out.
The other option is self publishing. I suggest you publish under your own publishing company and not through a vanity press. If you need more info, please contact me and I'd be happy to help you learn how to start your own company. It really doesn't take that much money, and the rewards are much greater.

This is how you do it - go to the bookstore, do some research and locate as many books as time permits that are in your genre and have recently been published. Then look to see what publishing companies are publishing those books in your genre. This shows you two things, 1 - companies who are interested in your genre for the time being, and 2 -companies who know how to market and reach an audience of book buyers hence why you found the books at your chosen bookstore. Contact the companies, submit manuscripts, wait for good news. Good luck.

I'm a inventor, if it was me I'd check with a patent attorney and at the same time send out letters to 5 different publishing co.'s. This way you'll have one answer 6 times or more than 1 to choose one. You should be able to get publishing co's. from the library, computer, telephone book.
