do something really good that will over ride that bad reputation... or in other words... do something that gives you a good reputation.. such as community service.. or something that is worth while

To some extent it depends on the reputation. If it is a juicy bad one I am not sure it will ever totally die down because people enjoy it too much. One way though is to never repeat the 'mistake' again, and make friends with the respectable people. Often one has to move away and then come back when things have died down. The other option is to ignore the sneers, gossip and cold shoulders until people get tired. Do lots of good deeds, join the 'ladies' clubs. This is a long term issue.

Moving is the quick fix, but is that truly the answer to your question? No, obviously you want to stay there so let's see!
I think you should not worry about the rep people have marked you with. All you can do is ask all of the people you ahve hurt to forgive you and lead by example. Don't try to convince people you have change live your live and they will see the change and time people won't think of you as a bad girl they will see where you've been and where you come!

All you can do is show that you really are a good person. EVERYONE in your town has done some nasty things in their life and it is forgotten quicker than what you think. The only ones that are still talking about are the little ol' ladies that are stuck in their apartments with nothing better to do than gossip to their cleaning lady.

it depends on what you did that gave you this rep. but if its really bad like you killed someone i say move and start over if its something like you had sex with every person in town put up with it there is no reason to move cause that's just too much no one will ever forget it happened and neither will you so i guess the best thing is to try and forget about it and don't let it bother you

I grew up in a small town and I can tell you there's absolutely no way. Those sniping old biddies will be talking about her (you, I assume) for a couple generations.
Move away. And don't tell them where. Start over. Learn from mistakes.
