It is called a home-and-home where each team hosts a game. It is common when teams are pretty clsoe to each other. There is no st rule that there has to be a night off between games.

Actually depends on how the schedule works out. The Pens are stuck with a league high 17 games this month(I believe it was 17). They also didn't play for like a week at a time at the start of the season. I have no idea what IDIOT dreamed that one up. Every team though plays at least one back-to-back game like that. Might not be the same team but they will play games one night after another. I don't think they will play 3 nights in a row(or at least I have never heard of it) but night to night games aren't that uncommon. Espically if the cities are close enough to do the Home and Home series as it is called(where they play one city one night and next night play the in the other team's city)

On average, a team will play every other night, but it depends on a team's schedule. Sometimes a team may have 3-4 days off in between games, but it all depends on their schedule. Another factor is if the team is at home or travelling, and the distance that they have to travel...

Back to Back games happens about 15 or so times per year (30+ games) and they also have 3 games in 4 nights.

In the playoffs there is always one night off between games. There is no league rule that requires a night off between games or 24 between games.
