I have a serious dialemma. I'm 26 years old. I've been married for 5 years with my husband for a total of 10 years. I've been sexually active for 9 years, but that's only with one person, my husband. But, I was molested by several people (more than 10) for a span of 4 years (8-12 yrs old). I am absolutely petrified 2 go 2 the OBGYN. I just don't want anyone looking at my body. It just reminds me of all of the bad things ya know? I definitely know I need 2 go. I want 2 go, I really do because I want to have kids someday. I haven't had a period since Jan. of last year and lasted from Oct 05-Jan 06. It's always been really crazy though. It never lasted that long. It's because I am overweight I think. I can't get pregnant. Not that I want 2 right now b/c I need 2 get healthy 1st. Im so scared, thinking about it right now makes me want 2 just break down and cry. I dont know what to do. Someone please help me. Need 2 know how 2 psych myself out or something. Please. TY-M

My opinion, how about starting with therapy for the molestation and start feeling better about yourself. Then you can make the leap to seeing a Gyno.

Good luck!

First of all, find an OB/GYN that a friend recommends. You may feel more comforatble with a woman. Set up a consultation appointment first. Tell them you just want to talk to the doctor. Write out all your questions and concerns and discuss with your doctor. Be honest with them about why you are scared. If you feel comfortable after talking, make an appointment to come back for an appointment for a pap. If you don't feel comfortable keep looking until you find a doctor you're comfortable with. By the way, a nurse must be present in the room with the doctor the entire time you are undressed. The first time will be hard but you will get through it and it will get easier.

I guess just remember that it's a Dr., and they are there to help. There are not to many situations they haven't heard before. Tell them your worries, they will understand, they are here to understand. Find a women Dr. if your more comfortable ( assuming you were molested by just men ). And if you want kids it's important to take care of yourself first, defiantly go to the Dr.! And if you haven't had counseling to deal with what happened to you, maybe the Dr. could recommend someone for you. You have a right to be scared, just tell them the truth, and they will help you.
