Is there something that I and other family members can start investing into for my nephews and nieces college? I don't think my sister thinks far enough ahead to prepare and I would like to see her kids have the option of going to college.

you can start a 529 college savings plan. You can open one at a bokerage firm like Fidelity.com or troweprice.com.

Invest in a CD or short term money market account for them. Or a Roth IRA. See your local bank. They'll give you investment ideas.
