Hollywood star Angelina Jolie showed off her newly-adopted Vietnamese son in a British magazine Wednesday, describing him as "very strong" and saying he was slowly adapting to his new life.

Pax Thien, aged three, is pictured playing by a swimming pool and in bed with Jolie's two other adopted children, Maddox, aged five, and two-year-old Zahara. Jolie states she loves him very much.

It is only in recent years that foreign adoption has become so popular. Look back 10 years and see who celebrities were adopting. Where did Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfiffer, Sharon Stone and Calista Flochart get their kids from. I'm not sure that they are American, but there wasn't the publicity flurry around them like there is with Angelina and Madonna.

am I correct? I think in the US the birth mother has a 3 year period in which she can regain the child. If this is true, I can see why a rich actor would not want to get into that "blackmail" type situation. I could be wrong about this.

I guess they dont adopt American babies because they feel they are doing a big thing and helping the world if they adopt from somewhere else that is really poor

Good question. I keep on trying to get Bill Gates to adopt me, but he won't answer my letters! I know what you mean. Why not help here?

@adrianna how a child leaving the continent would help the continent, maybe you mean they are helping orphan but then again any orphan would be helped if he's adopted, so what do you mean or you are just stupid.
