I started eating vegan four days ago, and now this twitching which I've never had before keeps going through my pinky finger. Could it be because I'm trying to be vegan and its effecting my body because I'm missing things I usually get when I eat meat/milk products/eggs?

According to an online medical source, "Muscle twitching is the result of minor local muscle contractions or the uncontrollable twitching of a single muscle group served by a single motor nerve fiber or filament.

Muscle twitches are minor and often go unnoticed. Some are common and normal, while others indicate a neurologic disorder."

While they do give a list including diet deficiency, the chances of a 4 day switch affecting your muscles is highly unlikely. Chances are your brain is playin the trick on you, not your body. Why the sudden change? And if you are changing, there are plenty of protein/iron products, etc. that can supplement what you're missing. Truthfully though, I don't see the point in eating vegan. Your body was built to live off of those things and depriving it can only lead to problems, neurological and physical.

Other causes might be exercise/ muscle strain? A drug side effect? And quite honestly, it might just be a benign twitch that your body got and it will go away. My mother always told us when she was busy, "if you're not bleeding or dieing, leave me alone." I think she'd probably tell you the same. :-)

You'll be fine. Go drink a glass of milk and have a nice slab of steak will ya?!

There is no way that in such a short period of time you would become malnourished. Life is full of little twitches and aches and pains. Most of them don't mean anything. Besides, I assume you're an American. Americans aren't malnourished, vegan or otherwise.

My advice to you is not to worry about it. It will probably go away.

Well I don't think that would be it, i mean if you are lacking protein then there are lots of vegetables that can help account for protein in your diet.
