My husband and I have been talking about getting a hedgehog for a few years. We have done a lot of reading on them. However now that we are ready to purchase one we can not find any. We used to have a few local breeders but they are no longer. I am in north idaho and close to washington. They are illegal there so looking there isnt an option. I have found them at locations I can not travel to to get the animal and most are not willing to ship? Anyone know of where to get one for a decent price or anyone that will ship???

There is a good reason this "pet" are hard to find. They are wild animals and should not be kept. If you are in such need of something to love try your local humane society. They euthanasias animals everyday only because they can not find homes for them and you could help save one. Truly no matter how much you have read, or prepared your home, you will never be able to fulfill the needs of a wild animal, they need wilderness and natural ecosystems, not carpet and florescent lights. You must understand this, if you only put your needs aside and think about the animals. Thank you.

I just checked Petfinder.com but there were only three hedgies listed. I had one a few years ago. I got her at a pet store in 1997 and paid $100.00 for her. She was really cute. I fed her Iams kitten food, but she also loved mealworms! You can also search the net for exotic pet stores in your area. Before you get one, make sure you can find a vet in your area that treats exotic pets including hedgehogs.
