He hisses at me and won't let me pick him up. I think it's a he. He's not old enough to tell and I can't pick him up without him attacking me. Is there some way to calm him down and let me hold him?

Try feeding him by hand and slowing building his trust. Eventually try picking him up by the bottom.

well the only way to tame him is to handle him everyday. and the way to tell if he is a he is to try to pick him up and look at the back legs, if the dots are big then you have a male, and if they are small then it is a female. the more it hisses at you he knows that you will not pick him up so he will do this every time you try to pick him up. that is his way of saying he doesn't want to be messed with, but you need to do it weather he wants you to or not. you may get scratched and possibly bitten but it will be worth it in the long run when you are able to hold him everyday. you will be happy that with you holding him all the time it was worth the wait. i have 2 of them and they were the same way and it took me about 3 weeks to tame them down and when they were tame i gave a sigh of relief that it was now done, but once you tame him you will need to keep holding him everyday so he will not get aggressive again. good luck in taming your little guy.

I myself have an iguana, the best way to make your Bearded Dragon not agressive is to show him who's boss. Right now he probably thinks he's the master of the house or apartment. Don't be afraid to hit him lightly. It may seem mean but he's got to learn! Good Luck.

Some lizards will not let you hold them. I consider aggression in reptiles a good sign anyway. Sick reptiles are lethargic and timid.

Try conditioning him to your presence, let him see you often, don't try to pick up. Wait till he stops reacting like your an enemy, then try hand feeding him. Thats how I got a nasty iguana to calm down, after that he was like a pet cat.

My bearded dragon was very scared and ran from me and hissed when she was younger my son just had to keep picking her up and forcing her to get use to us. we moved our cage into the living room so she could get use to us they seem to be a lot calmer when their around you a lot . they get use to the movement and noise and calm down faster that way.
