Size is relative. Mathematically, 0.080 has a larger value than .080. However, 0.008888 can be said to have a larger number of significant figures and it also takes a larger amount of space to write out.

I am not a math genius but my guess is that .080 is is larger because the decimal is .00 on the second number.

.080 is bigger because the number is closer to the decimal point. If you had .01, it would be bigger then .008 because anything is bigger if a number that is over 0 is closer to the decimal point.
